The Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee promotes opportunities for Christ Church and St. Barnabas Chapel parishioners to continue the work of Christ through actively serving the world in God's name.  The Committee oversees the awarding of time, treasure, and talent to the greater community.  Christ Church supports causes that are local, national, and international.

    Outreach Projects

The Discretionary Fund

On the first Sunday of each month the loose offerings

in the collection plates go to the Discretionary Fund.

These funds are available for Father Chris to use

for outreach needs in the community at his discretion.

United Thank Offering

The annual United Thank Offering Ingathering occurs during the Diocesan Convention each fall.  If you would like "a little blue box" to use to collect your offering throughout the year, you can talk to Marilyn Blake at Christ Church, Nancy Cotten at St. Barnabas Chapel, or contact the church office.

Shelter Meals

The purpose of this program is to provide one hot homemade meal for the homeless who spend the night in the shelter provided at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Clarksburg each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during the coldest months of the year. Churches and organizations in the area have partnered together to accomplish this.  Christ Church is responsible for the third Thursday of each month.  Kipp Martin is coordinating the food preparation, packing and delivery of the meals to the cots in the evening.

Grab-A-Bag Program

The purpose of this program was to put a nutritional bag meal in the hands of every homeless or hungry person who came to the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Clarksburg between 2:30-3:15 PM each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during the warm months of the year. Churches and organizations in the area partnered together to accomplish this.  In 2023 Christ Church was responsible for the third Thursday of each month .  Kipp Martin coordinated the packing and delivery of the food.

Backpack Blessings

Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, we can fill 75 backpacks each week for two headstart programs.

Volunteer shoppers purchase the food each week with donated money and it is stored on shelves at Christ Church.

On Sunday mornings after the service, anyone wanting to participate is welcome to help fill the food bags.

Then midweek volunteers take the bags to the designated sites so those children will have food to eat on the weekend.

Christ Church gives each backpack family a grocery store gift card to help with their Christmas dinners.
